awol

been a while. as most of you know I am now gainfully employed, so the poker has taken a back seat to a) content editing at the F--- Corporation, b) commuting via 8-mile bike ride and caltrain to F----'s office in R---- City, c) studying for the goddamn LSAT. I did manage 10th of 304 in NLHE at bay 101 two weeks ago, but for a disappointingly small cash. 5-handed, blinds 2k/4k with 500 antes, open-pushed ATo with 55k behind, SB found QQ.

ostensible blog supra completed, the real reason for the post: message board discussion of worst ledes ever yielded this absolutely flawless gem:

"Perhaps the most tragic thing about the death of James Dever was, had it happened an hour earlier, he would still be alive." — about a guy who was killed when a truck ran off the road and through his office one morning.

come forth lazarus

big old cash. 2nd of 118 in the oaks limit tourney for $2,800. will leave you with the final hand, also entitled, "a fun way to lose $2,900," which was the difference between first and second.

blinds 4k/8k, I have 57k, other guy about 130k.
I raise from SB, he calls.
flop (32k): 2c 4s 5s, he checks, I bet, he calls.
turn (48k): 2c 4s 5s Td, he checks, I bet, he calls.
river (80k): 2c 4c 5s Td Jd, he bets, I call all-in. he has Js2s, which is good.

my hand? oh yeah, sweet 29o. I asked him later if he would have called a river bet if it hadn't come a J. he hemmed and hawed but said, "well, the pot was pretty big."

anyway the new br contains 3.5k, I continue listening to the new mountain goats, and I'm feeling all right.
